1. Metabolomics Lab
In partnership with Metabolon Inc, USA, QABL-ADLQ conducts metabolomics analysis, incorporating sample preparation, fractionation, digestion and identification by LC ESI MS and MS/MS. It is the only facility in the middle east and second in Asia.
Metabolomics is one of the “omics” sciences which provides a picture of the metabolic state of a person in physiological or pathological conditions. The unique aspect of metabolomics is that it measures metabolites that provide a wide-ranging account of the biological processes that have occurred within an individual, which may be relevant to health and disease states. Ultimately, improved understanding of metabolic pathways in the context of health and disease may offer valuable insights into the mechanisms of diseases and inform the selection and/or generation of targeted pharmacological therapies. It is achieved through the analysis of metabolites present in a biological fluid, such as saliva, blood, feces, and urine.
At present QABL, ADLQ is engaged in doing metabolomics in both human and animal serum, plasma and urine samples. QABL has also validated method of micro sampling techniques (VAMS and DBS) for metabolomics, which would facilitate studies with less sample volume, hence useful to undertake studies in infants/children. The shipping and storage requirements are simple and can be performed at ambient temperature for most downstream tests.
2. Supplement testing
QABL offers testing of dietary supplements and related products for the presence of WADA prohibited substances and heavy metals. Our laboratory is ISO 17025 accredited from NATA, the Australian Accreditation Body.
The analysis of dietary supplements for WADA prohibited substances provides manufacturers and distributors of food supplements with an additional quality control of their products. The analysis of a product can be requested by the manufacturers or local distribution partners, National Anti- Doping Organizations and Sports Federations/Clubs.

Consumer safety testing is the process of testing, inspecting and certifying products to achieve compliance with consumer product safety standards. Product safety testing assures consumers that what they are buying is safe and compliant with applicable requirements.
QABL is an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory in Qatar providing different range of tests to ensure consumer safety. The tests available at QABL are listed below:

Pharmacogenomics is a branch of pharmacology concerned with using DNA and amino acid sequence data to inform drug development and testing. An important application of pharmacogenomics is correlating individual genetic variation with drug responses. The method is based on short tandem repeats (STR) also known as microsatellites, extracted from DNA followed by amplification and quantification.
QABL is developing method for PCR and DNA sequencing to extend its Scope of testing and contribute in the anti-doping research on gene doping. The method would be audited by NATA (Australian Accreditation Body) for ISO 17025 accreditation by 2022.
5. Vascular testing
The vascular testing platform is engaged in the functional assessment of blood vessels derived from both humans and animals. We are fully equipped with myographs to record vessel wall tension in small and large vessels and the impact of varying concentrations of drugs and other test substances. We have particular expertise in preparing and testing small arteries derived from the skeletal muscle vasculature which play such a fundamental role in the massive increase in blood flow required for sports and exercise performance.
6. Human metabolic studies/physiology
The human metabolic studies/physiology unit (HMS/PU) is a dedicated research unit run by medical team (research physician, research nurse and phlebotomist).
HMS/PU was designed specifically for the measurement of energy expenditure and body composition and provides a unique opportunity to explore and provide an understanding of the nature of metabolism and metabolic disorders.
HMS/PU is monitoring the safety and well-being of enrolled study participants and ensuring IRB compliance with regulations involving the protection of human research participants and carrying out clinical procedures associated with research protocols.
